PKJN Orville Lewis started Karate whilst at the age of 15 whilst at school. During his time in six form he found the training and a discipline helped him to focus on his studies. He stopped training when he went on to study youth and community work in North London. Once he qualified, he returned to the study of the martial arts. This time he studied Mugendo, a form of kick boxing.
After leaving London and moving to Suffolk he was not able to continue training and stopped for a number of years. PSBN Orville started Kuk Sool Won™ in 1997, after speaking to a neighbour; they invited him to try a traditional Korean martial art called Kuk Sool Won, since joining he has never looked back.

My dad first brought me to the Colchester Kuk Sool dojang when I was ten years old. We enjoyed ourselves and he decided to join, but unfortunately I wasn’t confident enough in myself to do the same. A few years later, a friend of mine told me he wanted to try the martial art that dad did, and I decided to go along again with him. Having a friend to train with gave me the confidence to sign up, and in doing so start my lifelong martial art journey − although I didn’t know that at the time! That was 2009. Over the last 10 years, I have achieved far more than I could have imagined. I became a black belt in 2013 and am now training for my 3rd degree. I have had the opportunity to meet Kuk Sa Nim and train with masters from around the world, and to take part in the European Championships as both a competitor and a judge. Most importantly, I have developed a sense of confidence and self-belief which helps me reach new goals both in and out of the dojang. In 2012 I completed the Instructor Training Course, and have since gone on to teach as Assistant Instructor for the Colchester school. Sharing my passion for Kuk Sool through teaching, and helping others grow and find their potential as martial artists as I have, is an enormous privilege for which I am continually grateful.

I Joined Kuk Sool won in 2010, before that I did Karate which I had been doing since 2002. The reason I started practicing martial arts was due to the influence of my grandad as he was a boxer and I wanted to do something to follow in his footsteps, so I joined Kuk Sool won of Colchester mainly because at the time I didn’t know what it was and it was something new to try. I have enjoyed the different parts to Kuk Sool Won and the respect everyone has for each other. I gained my 1st degree Black belt in 2017 and hopefully promote to 2nd degree in 2020.
